0% Interest Rate Credit Cards – Are They Really That Good?

Posted by Joseph Archibald 17 November, 2009

What is the main reason that you would wish to have 0% interest credit cards? Pretty obvious, right – ultimately to save money. There are many card companies offering these cards so what’s the truth behind the deal here?

The credit card company will no doubt gain more customers than say, if they were to offer a simple card
with’% interest rates per annum. So there is one benefit straight off – growth of customer base.

However, do keep in mind that statistics show a general trend where consumers who take out one of the 0% interest credit cards offers tend not to pay the full balance off at the end of the interest free period. Thus, it can work out in the longer run that what initially was a good idea to take the card is actually an expensive option due to the potential high interest rates after the zero interest rate period has concluded.

With this in mind then, firstly it makes very good sense to make comparisons of what is available to you. How long is the interest free period? What are the interest rates after the zero interest rate finishes? What other fees are or could be involved?

As nice as it would be, 0% interest credit cards do not last at 0% forever. If they did a lot of us would be better off than we are now. Alas, its not to be. Credit card companies need to make money too otherwise they would not be around for long.

Use the card wisely and it will benefit you in the short to mid-term. With most types of card if we are to misuse them we pay a fairly heavy price. It is no different for 0% interest credit cards.

Find out about the terms and conditions in the first place and then make sure to stick within the rules. Take good care of your card spending and your card will be a large help to you in return.
