Nothing has been keeping Americans warm quite like Sunbeam electric blankets. These blankets are designed with durability and safety in mind, letting the owner rest comfortable at night. These blankets are affordable and easy to take care of. Other manufacturers produce blankets, giving the consumer many choices in colors, features and size.

It wasn’t too long after the discovery of the heated pad in’12 that the electric blanket was invented. Although the safety of the earlier model blankets was in question, there was not much evidence to prove they were unsafe. Studies performed at that time allowed designers of electric blankets to improve their quality.

There are still some considerations that should be pondered when purchasing an electric blanket. The following is a small list of some of those considerations. It is very important to read the caution labels and manufacturers suggestions. An electric blanket is, however, heating elements wrapped in material. If not used correctly, it has been known to cause bodily injury such as minor burns and electric shock.

1. Does the blanket have an automatic shut off? Most of the mid priced blankets offer the feature of having the blanket’s heating element shut off automatically after a few hours. This can be adjusted to the consumer’s liking. Some of the higher priced electric blankets offer the safety feature of setting the blanket to come on at a certain time and shutting off as programmed. This can warm the bed before the owner retires for the night.

2. Is the blanket’s manufacturer a well known company? To be on the safe side, purchase a blanket from a known electrical appliance manufacturer and that the blanket is a UL listed product. Manufacturers pride themselves in making some of the most reliable and safe product. Many can be researched on line, allowing the consumer to educate themselves in what features to look for.

3. Check the thickness and type of material being used in the blanket. Those blankets that tend to be a little thinner run a higher burn risk than those with ample thickness. Most manufacturers offer an array of thicknesses with an awesome amount of colors and sizes to fit any bed size. The larger blankets often come with control settings for each side.

Owning and using an electric blanket can warm those cold winter nights unlike anything else. It can also help lower utility bills by allowing the owner to lower the thermostat at night. There have been a few safety questions about the use of electric blankets, but in today’s advantaged technology, most blankets are safe and made of quality materials.
