A Guide to the Haunted House in Poptropica
The Poptropica Haunted House is a cool mini-quest that is only available for a limited time in the popular online game. It was launched in early October, 2009 to celebrate Halloween. In this cool mini-quest, you must enter a haunted house and locate six items while overcoming obstacles and solving puzzles along the way. At the end, if you are successful in getting all of the items, you will gain entry to a fun Halloween themed party.
The very first thing you need to do is start the mission! You can do this by clicking on the promotion for the Haunted House mission on the main Poptropica map. You’ll arrive at a scary looking graveyard with lots of tombstones. Walk over to the left to get to the Haunted House. It’s locked and you need to get inside through the cellar door on the left. But first you need to steal the key from the bat who is flying around. Jump up on the house and head to the roof where you can catch the bat and take the key from him. Once you have it, click on the cellar door to go inside.
When you arrive inside the cellar, you’ll find the first puzzle that you must solve. There are pipes floating in the air between the furnace and the boiler. You must click on the pipe segments to rotate them and get them all connected so that the resulting pipe runs all the way from the furnace to the boiler. When this happens, the boiler will turn on and steam will come out of it. If you jump up on the steam, you will fly up to a platform above the furnace. You’ll find a draught of red liquid and this is the next item.
Now you’ll want to head inside the house to get the only items. The inside of the house is really spooky! There are a few things you need to get in here. The first is some ice cubes. Open the refrigerator to get the ice but you’ll see you need something to chip it out. Head upstairs to where you see the two knight statues. Jump on the head of the one holding the big pickaxe and it will drop it. Then pick it up and take it back to the refrigirator to get the ice.
The next item you can get is the lantern. Go to the bedroom upstairs on the left and click on the clocks on the fireplace mantle. These two clocks need to be set so that they both strike midnight at the same time. When they each strike midnight, a skull pops out like a jack in the box. You want to make both skulls pop up at the same time. You can make one clock move faster and “catch up” by putting your mouse over it. It will glow green while this is happening and the clock will move much faster. Move the cursor off when it catches up to the other one. Keep adjusting the clocks until they are perfectly in sync. When they both strike midnight together, you’ll get the lantern.
Next you need to get into the attic. But the trick to getting there is to find something that lets you fly. This is the broom in the painting of the witch. Here’s what you do. Run over and click on the spider on the floor in the hall to get it to drop down. It will scare the witch in the painting and she will drop her broom. Now go stand on the broom and you can fly. Use it to go up into the attic and then go all the way to the left. You’ll see a chest. Click on it and you’ll do a sliding puzzle. This is really easy to solve if you pay close attention because all you need to do is the same moves you see but in reverse order. When you get the slider puzzle picture of the skull back into place you’ll get the chalice.
The next step is to go talk to the ghost cat downstairs in the parlor next to the kitchen. The cat will tell you to light the lantern. You can do this by going back into the cellar and clicking on the barrel marked with the word kerosene. Then go back and talk to the cat one more time and he’ll tell you to bring the treasures to where the cherub cries. This means to go back to the graveyard where you started. There’s a big statue of a crying angel but now there’s a hole in the ground next to it. Click on the hole to go down and you’ll arrive at a special Halloween party.
Once you arrive at the party, they will tell you they’ve been waiting for you and you’ll get a reward of fifty Poptropica credits for finishing this mini-mission. You’ll also see a lot of great costumes at the party that you can copy using the Poptropica Costumizer. The costumes include mummies, a witch, Death, a vampire, and a scarecrow. It’s a great place to find lots of fun for Halloween on Poptropica.
