A Review of Glyquin XM Cream – Its Pros and Cons

Posted by Kelly Weiren 24 November, 2009

Glyquin XM is a hydroquinone topical cream that is used to improve darkened skin areas and reduce freckles, age spots, melasma and chloasma. Being a prescription medicine, the cream can only be obtained with a physician’s consent. The product only treats a single and specific skin problem that is pigmentation, and claims of it being an anti-wrinkle agent may all be rumors. Despite its SPF 15 sunscreen protection, Glyquin XM can still cause over sensitivity to sun rays, if exposed at a certain degree.

Glyquin XM’s formulation contains 40 mg of hydroquinone. This substance has been found to cause mild to severe adverse effects. These include allergic reactions such as skin irritation, swelling and difficulty breathing.

The use of the cream is bound by certain limitations. Topical creams that contain Hydroquinone may aggravate sunburns, windburns, skin dryness and irritation. The cream can also interact negatively with other skin care products – i.e. skin cleansers, formulated soaps, hair color, shampoo and waxes – causing irritation when they are used together. When the cream is used along with other medicated products, skin damage may also occur.

Glyquin XM is not recommended for use by patients with liver and kidney diseases. The high dose of Hydroquinone in the cream may be detrimental to their health. It is also contraindicated for pregnant and nursing women as well as people with drug allergies.

Moreover, Glyquin XM is intended to be used for a short period of time only on the target areas instead of applying it on the whole skin. While using it, you may feel sensitive to extreme temperatures together with other reactions like irritation.

While there are no reported interactions between Glyquin XM and other medications, it is still important to consult with a doctor before using the cream especially if you’re under treatment for another condition or if you’re taking vitamins and other supplement for that matter.
