Are Your Limiting Beliefs Holding You Back?

Beliefs that we hold in our conscious or unconscious minds can limit our success and happiness. We can free ourselves from these beliefs through energy techniques such as Emotional Freedom Therapy (EFT), but we have to know what they are before we can let them go.

Get in touch with how you feel about different situations. At random times throughout the day, rate how you\’re feeling on a scale from 1 to 10, where 10 is super great and 1 is just awful. Focus on a particular part of your life, a relationship or business opportunity, for example, and gauge your level there, too. What\’s stopping you from being at a 10? \”I could be a 10, totally great, if only I had _______.\” Fill in the blank with the thing that is limiting your happiness and you\’ve identified a limiting belief.

Watch for physical sensations when dealing with your limiting beliefs; they will give you clues as to an effective ridding process without necessarily needing to open up each and every belief. For example, if you find that deep down you feel like you just don\’t deserve true love, and you simultaneously feel a pang in your lower belly, this could indicate additional similar limiting beliefs are attached to the original feeling that you don\’t deserve success. If you find this pang rest assured that you can clear out those additional limiting beliefs by addressing the initial one.

Other times, garbage is tossed about and we must pick through it to get rid of it item by item. Every person is different and has different experiences; therefore, people\’s garbage is different and must be handled accordingly.

Beliefs about Money and Self

Two major areas that control people are money and self. Negative thoughts about money sabotage our ability to have abundance. Some negative thoughts about money may be \”rich people are greedy\” or \”money is the root of all evil\”. Most people agree that they have as much money as they need but what would happen if you had money that surpasses what you believe you should have?

It\’s similar with limiting beliefs about ourselves. We tell ourselves that we are not worthy, not deserving, not good enough. And so, when we have opportunities to go beyond our limits, we stop ourselves because we don\’t believe we deserve the abundance. We may not be aware that we are making decisions that limit our wealth and happiness, because these may be unconscious beliefs.

Clearing Limiting Beliefs

When people clear themselves of their limiting beliefs they are able to make the shifts needed to succeed, to stop the self-sabotage. How do you know if you have cleared limiting beliefs? You may notice shifts– you feel better about your finances or yourself or whatever it is you are working on. You may experience things going better for you; maybe more money is coming in or you\’re more successful in other ways.

Once you are aware of these beliefs you can start to peel them back in layers, like you\’re peeling an onion. At times you may need to clear one issue at a time; at other times you may experience a breakthrough on one issue that causes a clearing of lots of limiting beliefs.

As you discover your limiting beliefs and let them go, you move closer to having a wonderful life, a life lived at 10.
