Disney Grad Nite A Time To Remember

Posted by John Miller 28 November, 2009

The last time I went to Disneyland was for disney grad nite, over 10 years ago. I never have gone back because I would just as soon forget that night.

Do not misunderstand, graduation night at Disney land is a fine way to end high school graduation. And you can tell others agree with me. We were one of several hundred high schools there that night. The park was like a New York subway at rush hour.

I rode on one ride that night, the snow white ride in the kids zone. It was the only ride without a thousand people waiting in line.

My plan for grad night seemed like a good one at the time. Later it proved not so good. Let me explain. I had started dating a girl in my class about two months before graduation. We had gone to high school four years together and had never met until then. We actually met at a college orientation function. We were going to the same college we found out at the event and might not have ever met if we had decided to go to different colleges.

She and I were heading for the same college and discovered we went to the same high school at the college President’s home. We met about two months before high school graduation. I am embarrassed to say not only did it take me four years to meet her and go out on a date with her; it took me four years of high school to go out with anyone on a date. There I said it.

By grad night what little relationship we had was dwindling like sand through an hour glass. But I did not want to face that. Not with grad nite coming up and she being the only girl I had ever dated. I figured that was what grad nite was all about. But we also had our own friends we wanted to spend time with that night.

So we planned to meet half way into the night after hanging out with our buddies. So my friends and I stood around the hub of the park and watched the masses pass to and fro. I kept looking at my watch. Finally it was time to meet her in frontier land.

We met at tomorrow land and walked around for about awhile wondering when tomorrow would arrive. We stopped for a coke at a crowded fast food place and sat for about ten minutes. We decided it was best that we should try to find our separate friends and end the night separately. I did not see her again until our first week in college. By that time she was dating a college junior. So that was my disney grad nite. I have to tell you, that snow white ride was killer!
