Find An Eye Doctor
Find an eye doctor near you. When selecting the best eye doctor in your area, there are a number of factors to consider. You want one that is affordable and has a good reputation. A doctor that is referred to by a friend or family may work out well. That way you know that he/she has done satisfactory work. You can feel a little more assurance knowing that your family/friends have gone to this particular doctor and have had a good enough experience to give him/her a reference.
Our health insurance may or may not cover the reason for our visits. Find out to make sure what your health insurance will cover. If the reason for your visit is covered, then great! If not, find out how much it will cost you. Regular eye doctor visits are not cheap. It can run you up quite a bit. Make sure it fits your budget.
It is necessary to do all the vital checks prior to making the decision. You want to avoid eye doctors that have been sued for malpractice. If they have a number of malpractice suits, find out the reason behind it. If that does not make you want to run, then more power to you. But many of us want to avoid doctors with a bad rep. Also, experience is crucial. An experienced person that has been doing what they are doing for a while, has a better chance of knowing what they are doing vs. Someone that barely started.
Without our eyes, we cannot see. They are very important parts that play a vital role. Depending on the reason for your visit, figure out if you need to see an ophthalmologist, optometrist, or optician. Yes, they all have the root word, “opt” in it, which means “eye”.
If you are experiencing eye complications and are in need of surgery or other medical attention, you will want to go to an ophthalmologist. They are MD’s and specialize in eye disease, surgery, medications, etc. For serious complications concerning the eye, you will want to see an ophthalmologist.
To get fitted for eye glasses, corrective contact lenses, or prescription sunglasses, you are going to want to visit the optician. An optician may work along side an optometrist during an eye exam. They specialize in fitting corrective wear. However, they are not “doctors”.
An optometrist checks you for vision and prescribes corrective glasses and/or lenses. If you wear contact lenses, you should visit your optometrist once a year for an eye exam. The purpose for the regular eye exam is to make sure that there are no problems arising from the use of contact lenses. Depending on where you are, a regular check up averages around $100. For eye glass wearers, it is recommended that you get checked at least twice a year. Optometrists are not considered MD’s. They are the ones that check your eyes for any complications of the eyes that may require surgery or other special care and refer you to an ophthalmologist.
Eye exams should be done regularly. Our overall health is important, and our eyes are no exception. We need to take good care of them. Problems should be detected early. Early detection limits further complications.
Not a lot of people know, at first that they have an eye problem, especially if they were born with it. These people, when they get old enough, should find an eye doctor and an eye specialist.
