How Badly Do You Want To Kill that Once In A Lifetime Buck?

Are you deer hunting to take that once-in-a-lifetime deer with the giant rack? If you are aspiring to harvest the kind of buck which most folks only dream of, I can help, but you will probably need to alter your thinking and tactics and assume the diligence and devotion required to bring home a massive trophy buck.

Although random luck can play a part, hunting down that monster deer is a long term project that requires a lot of analysis and is likely to take months or years to be successful. In my experience, I have chased a specific elusive deer for several years before the moment arrived where my prey was finally there for the taking. The giant “war hosses” are especially proficient at avoiding a clear shot by constantly being in positions just out of your field of view. These deer have an instinctive ability to find the correct location where they will be safe from the deer hunter.

The giant old bucks have an individual manner and behavior routine so your success in hunting them requires that you change your strategy appropriately. You very nearly need to think of the large older bucks as a totally different species to be successful in hunting them. Together with their being older and bigger, they are smarter, more skittish, and much more considered in their behavior. The simple fact that a trophy buck has survived to four, five or six years of age is an indication that they have become proficient in a life which keeps them away from hunters and other predators.

A huge buck generally will not flee at the least bit of danger but will instead remain hidden until the coast is clear. I have watched bucks hold firm in cover taking advantage of their natural stealth and incredible camouflage, and then slip, crawl or swim away in avoidance of the most seasoned hunters.

Your tactics have to change if you want to have a chance at bagging a large buck. If your skills and patience are up to the task, and you’re willing to put in the time and effort, with a little luck you too can get that trophy.
