How To Decide Which Exercise Is Right For You

More and more people today are starting to understand that unless we don’t take the bull by the horns, and take responsibility for our weight issues, they are only going to get worse. Anybody who has ever lost a significant amount of weight knows that it is only through a combination of exercise and diet that you can achieve lasting results. In this article, I’ll be talking about exercise.

The first two considerations are aerobic exercise, and anaerobic exercise. Aerobic exercise uses a combination of oxygen and stored fuel (hopefully from fat) to produce energy. These are all exercises that lasts more than a couple of minutes, and gets your breathing rate and your pulse up.

What is likely the most popular form of aerobic activity is running or cycling. If you go to any gym today, you’ll see many treadmills and stationary bicycles. Each has their benefits. Stationary bicycles don’t give you quite the workout that running does, but it is much easier on your joints. There is also swimming, rowing, and aerobics themselves.

Anaerobic exercises are short bursts of high intensity movements that primarily used energy stored in the muscles. These don’t rely on oxygen, so you can only do them for a short time. Sprints, weightlifting, and body weight exercises are examples of these. These are great for building muscle tone and definition. There are virtually hundreds of different ways you can achieve this in the gym.

Which one should you do? If you’d like to be slender and flexible, go for the aerobic exercises. If you’d like to get some muscle tone and definition, shoot for the weight training exercises.

There are plenty of people that do both. By combining both exercises, they get the fat burning benefit of running or cycling with the muscle tone building benefits of weight training. Whatever you choose, make sure to choose something you can do on a regular basis, which will get you closest to your goals.
