List Building – The Puzzle is Revealed With Top Tips

“The money is in the list”, this is often heard in the Internet Marketing Indsutry but a lot of people do not know exactly what list building is and how important it is to your home/online business.

So what is a list? Well it is a collection of peoples details (usually name and email address) who are interested in your product. You know they are interested in your product because they have submitted their details in order for something that relates to your specific product, this can come in the form of a free report or product. When list building make sure you add targeted people to your list, otherwise you will be marketing to people that are not likely to be interested in your product.

Straight away let people who visit your site know exactly what type of product/business you are involved with. This is crucial because otherwise your list will become full of untargeted people, this is a poor form of list building. You want to make it clear to viewers what you are selling/promoting by having keywords in your domain name. For example I am an Internet Marketing Mentor so I have the keywords “Marketing” and “Mentor” in my domain name.

Once you have made it clear what niche you’re involved with by the use of a keyword loaded domain name make sure you give detail on exactly what segment of your niche you are involved with. You do this by creating a squeeze page, this is where you give details of the benefits your products/business opportunity offer and in return to receive these benefits the viewer opts in and gives you their details (email address and first name are the best).

Bullet point out the offer to make it stand out to the viewer; people don’t want to have to read a long chunk of text to find out what the offers/benefits are so make it clear for them. Also I recommend shooting a video where you explain the benefits; this is good for two reasons. Reason 1 is because you come across as a leader and people will look up to you; reason 2 is people will relate to you and know you’re not a spamming robot; it’s the next best thing to being face to face with the viewer.

Now you have a keyword loaded domain name and clear squeeze page you need to drive traffic to your site. There are many Internet Marketing techniques that are good for list building but I’m going to talk about free techniques as not everybody can afford paid advertising at first (I definitely couldn’t when I first started out).

I recommend starting with Social Networking as you can position yourself as a leader and build your own brand (YOU) within your industry. The two social networking sites I would use are Facebook and Twitter as they are the most commonly used. After you set up an account you want to add targeted people.

I’m involved within the Internet Marketing Industry this is commonly popular with people who leave their corporate job to become an Internet Marketer or people who want to better their lifestyle; recently I have started adding people in real estate jobs as the economic recession has hit that Industry hard and more people are looking for an alternative way to make money and escape their Real Estate jobs.

To find these people I simply type “Real Estate” on Facebook and Twitter and it bringe me a list of people that have that word appear on their profile so they most likely work in Real Estate. Add them and when they accept introduce yourself, briefly let them know who you are and what product/home business your are involved with. Then ask to hear more from that person; list building is all about building relationships. This means pay attention to that person and connect with them rather than trying to just sell your product.

I hope now you get the picture on how to create targeted traffic amd build a list; firstly find people who are likely to be interested in your product and then send them to your squeeze page where you can get their details and build a valuable list, once you have a valuable list you can promote beneficial products to them and that’s how you make money online.
