Makeover Your Living Room

If you want to give your living room a whole new look, the cheapest way to do so is with paint. You can easily paint your living room and make it look attractive by using opaque paint on your walls and enhancing the paint with decorative paint touches such as stencils, sponge painting and even stamp painting.

The first thing to do is to cover all holes on the wall. You might have hung photos or artworks so this caused small openings in the wall. Make sure there’s no space to peep in.

Next step is to “vacate” the room. Take away area rugs, expensive decorations and personal items like photos, paintings and other knick-knacks. Cover the furniture that are too heavy to move. If it’s a wall-to-wall carpeting room, cover the entire floor as well.

Once you finish your pre-paint tasks, you are now ready to change the color of your living room. If you’re going to re-paint with a lighter shade, apply a primer first. Use a good quality paint that can have good results in just one or two coats. One helpful idea to make the task easier is to use only one color for both the walls and ceiling. This technique is called al fresco.

After painting, allow ample time for the walls and ceilings to dry. Have proper ventilation so air can circulate and paint fumes won’t get stuck in the room. With a new color, you can now consider adorning your walls with a decorative paint. Options are stenciling, stamping and sponge painting. You can express your creativity in doing this project. With an inspiration from a beautiful furniture or area rug, you can imitate the pattern on the wall. All you need are tracing paper and acetate, and then stencil the design on the wall.

For a more extensive makeover, why not upgrade your area rugs as well? The stenciling method is also applicable, except that the paints differ. Latex paint is for stenciling the wall while fabric paint is for the area rugs.

This entire project can be done in a weekend and will give your room a fresh and updated look. The cost for paint and stencils is minimal when you consider the impact that the new paint job will have on your living room. You will have an entire new living room that is decorative and up to date in a weekend if you follow this simple guide for painting and incorporating decorative painting on your walls as well as your area rugs.

Don’t be ripped off by imitations. Be sure to buy authentic modern tropical rugs directly.
