Building a website is not an easy task and it takes a lot of work. Often people think that the moment they publish, that flocks of people are going to arrive at their site. After all, the higher up you get in page rankings, the more likely your site will get noticed. SEO is the way the search engines learn about your website and determine what is important about them.

Search engines depend on key words to give them the information they require. This applies to every single page of your site. The search engines don’t just stop at your first page. On page optimization is not difficult once you understand what the search engines are looking for. You must constantly keep your website up to date with fresh material and keep optimizing your key words. It takes work to get noticed, but no doubt your web site is worth it.

Here are some ideas to help you get your web into good shape for SEO.

Add Keyword in Title: Include ONLY our main keywords. The least amount of words you can place in the title, the more weight Google will give to each of the keywords and the higher you will rank.

You are most likely familiar with header tags. They look like this H1.The header tag is like your title content. It must be as close to the top of the page as possible and contain the keywords.

For the sub heading H2you want to get your second most important key word in. This too should be as close to the top as possible.

How often your keywords show on a page is important. That doesn’t mean that you can plaster them all over the page at random. Google will not approve of this. Key word density is dependant on how often the keyword shows in conjunction with the total number of words. The keywords must read as if they naturally belongs in the text.

Yahoo is partial to text consisting of keywords in bold or italics. Bold depicts that it is strong in meaning and the italics refers to emphasis. This is in reference to the tags found in the body or the posts in bogs.

How you prepare your image tags is important as well. These are ALT and they are the description for the search engine to know what the image is. Without overdoing it try and get the keyword into the image description as well.

Most sites will have hyperlinks of some type and they usually all have some form of visible text attached to them. This is the anchor text.

Your Urls are very important as search engines take a look at the words used in these as well. So make sure you use URLs that you can include your keywords in.

How you layout the navigation of your pages is important. If it is easy to navigate and the link structure is done in such a way that it just takes a few clicks to get around then it is good. This helps the spiders in the search engines navigate as well.
