The Enchanting Continent Of Africa
Africa is an exciting and intriguing continent that offers small, hidden villages to large modern cities. This continent is home to 49 individual countries with 840 million people, or approximately 12 percent of the world’s population. Let’s take a look at some of the interesting facts about this enchanting continent.
One of the fascinating things about this particular continent is the large number of tribes and people groups that make up its population. Every tribe and group has its own culture and customs. Each country has indigenous groups, as well as groups that have moved in over the centuries.
There are more pyramids in Sudan than in any other country of the world, including Egypt. There are 223 in Sudan. These incredible structures are enormous with extremely steep sides. They measure 75 to 100 feet tall.
Libya is an interesting country. It is the only country in the whole world that has a flag of only one solid color without any other details on it. In land size, it is the fourth largest country on the continent and the seventeenth largest country in the world.
An enormous desert covers almost 90 percent of Libya’s land. This same desert makes it Africa’s ninth richest country. It is rich in petroleum. Very few people live in the country of Libya.
Children will enjoy knowing that the world’s largest frog, known as the Goliath frog, is found in Cameroon and Equitorial Guinea. Its body measures 12 inches long, and if you stretch it out, it can be up to 30 inches long. Do you realize that is the size of most house cats? This frog is unique in that it can jump as far as 10 feet, but it doesn’t make any noises. When they are born, they are the same size as other species of tadpoles.
