Some people are gifted and one of my friends was just such a person. I am not sure why, but he was never much to be one who stood out academically. He used to be just above average when we were studying together in school. Somehow things changed we were in different colleges.

While in school my major in was physics, my friends major, was not. The teachers found out that his true passion was mathematics. A brilliant mind that was once trapped in a mediocre body, my friend truly learned to excel.

My friend went to one of the top universities. Pursuing his one true love, my friend studied mathematics. Known for creating excellent mathematicians, is why my friend attended this school. Many of the students who attended the school have become famous for their work and contributions to the world.

He continued his research at this university. Trying to learn everything that he could while he was there, he was an excellent student. I think in applied mathematics or something high sounding like that and since there were more facilities abroad. Although he could have gone anywhere, the consumed student he was. He decided that he wanted to go to the United States. He ended up in California. Perhaps due to his constant work, his vision was impaired and he underwent an eye surgery in Oakland.

Although he moved to California, his wife remained behind living with his parents. His wife board with her life with him left him. When the news came to him of this, he was horrified. Depression set in from her leaving, he committed suicide. A good friend, an esteemed mathematician’s, was no more. I do not know why those who are truly gifted oftentimes are depressed.
