The Most Talented Female Singers in Indie Music

Female singers have a big place in today’s music world. This is a great thing, as the diversity in music has thrived during the past few decades. Many of today’s most successful music artists are females.

Some of today’s most talented female music artists come from the indie rock world. This breed of intelligent rock allows artists to creatively express themselves, and some great talent is here for us to enjoy as a result.

Let’s take a look at some of the better female indie vocalists in music today. There are many of them, and some of the best will surely be left out. Still, here are the ones who stand out in mind.

First, I’d like to mention Regina Spektor. I’m in a coffee house as I write this, and her music is playing. This in fact inspired me to write this article.

Spektor has a chilling voice that truly makes her music sound that much better. Many artists have paired up with her, simply for the fact that her voice is incredible.

Another great vocalist in female music is Cat Power. Her real name is Chan Marshall, and she’s been making great music for about a decade now. With so many songs on her resume, both original and covers, her laid back style of blues music is one of the best in the indie world.

An older singer who makes this list is Sharon Jones, though her music is anything but old. In an unlikely twist, she’s probably more popular now (in her 50s) than ever before, thanks to the combination of Jones and the Dap Kings. Her music could be compared to some of the best Motown jams from the 60s and 70s.

One last women worthy of making this list is Shara Worden. Look her up on YouTube if you’ve never heard her music and you’ll immediately be sold. Her sweet voice may be the best female voice in indie rock today.
