Tilt Of Scales: The Rise Of Business Women

Posted by Vicki Irvin 17 November, 2009

30 years ago, it was difficult to spot or hear of a business woman in many countries. They were relegated to the menials of household and had no say in affairs of trade, economic or anything that came with the tag of ‘Thinking’ with it. Humanity has shunned these practices of bias and is now in a phase which recognizes women as equals (though not without some heart burn). Constituting 80% of the consumer market, they simply can’t be left out.

Women have evolved traits that have put them on the comeback course. They are considered better learners and task masters. That is not saying that men don’t have these abilities. It is simply more evident in a woman and it is always there. It can’t burn out if you got to come from behind to win the race.

Leading a balanced life is very important for women. The onus of family welfare is largely on them and they have not shrugged it off. Despite their induction into the business world, they have remained committed to their families. Many women are successful in their business and lead lifestyles which are worth imitable.

It is no longer accepted that women are fit only for behind the scenes work. A good number of worlds most powerful are women. In the world of business, big deals are sealed through perseverance that is inherent to women. What would the world do without them!

The recent economic recession that hit the world has questioned the male wisdom. Since many bankers responsible for the crisis were men, there are debates raging if the blame has to land squarely on men and hence should there be a complete role reversal. While this might be far fetched, it is not completely false either and the idea is worth debating and discussion.

Keeping women away from mainstream business and treating them inferior cost the world in terms of skill, innovation and most of all the productivity it could have had. This has been recognized and women are getting their due. They are equals and in order to facilitate their productive functioning as business people, men should be more accommodating.
