Using Binaural Beats For Meditation

Using Binaural Beats in your Meditation can help you go “deeper”. Binaural Beats occur when your brain hears 2 different frequencies in each ear. For example, if your right ear hears 200 Hz, and your left ear hears 210 Hz, then essentially you brain is hearing 10 Hz. When you use Binaural Beats, you can control your brainwave frequencies. This is called entrainment.

The four brainwave depths that can be manipulated using Binaural Beats are beta, alpha, theta and delta. Beta brainwaves increase concentration and active thinking. The brain hears beta frequencies at 13 – 40 Hz. Alpha brainwaves increase relaxation and drowsiness at 7 – 13 Hz. The brain is in alpha state when you are doing light meditation, or are day dreaming. Theta brainwaves are seen during REM sleep, while you are dreaming, and during meditation. Delta brainwaves are associated with the deepest sleep, and out of body experiences. They are found at. 5 – 4 Hz.

There are different ways to use Binaural Beats during meditation, but I recommend starting with beta, then alpha, progressing to theta, and lastly ending with delta. Delta is not necessary, unless you are wanting to go into a really deep meditative state. Daily meditation doesn’t really need delta brainwaves, so descending to theta is fine.

One can purchase meditative CD’s or download Binaural Beats free from various sources on the internet. Downloading individual files is a great way to create your own mixes.

In order for your brain to “hear” Binaural Beats, you will need to use headphones. Simply listening to them via speakers is not effective, since each tone needs to be delivered to the ear individually. Studies have also shown that some people should not use Binaural Beats at all. People with a history of seizures and small children should avoid the use of Binaural Beats.

For me, the use of Binaural Beats has greatly helped to get into deeper meditative states much faster. I have also experimented with using Binaural Beats for other purposes as well. For instance, I have found that if I listen to theta waves, followed by delta waves at bedtime, I sleep deeper and more soundly. I also seem to dream more vividly when I do this. Since the uses of Binaural Beats are so diverse, and it is deemed safe for the majority of individuals, I highly recommend giving it a try. You may be on your way to your first out of body experience.
