A virtual phone number is a phone number that is not connected via a telephone line. Calls to these phone numbers are forwarded to a computer or to a non-associated phone line or mobile phone.

Investigate prices, but you should be able to get a virtual phone number with your preferred area code for in the US for a very small fee. Overseas virtual numbers, in over 40 different countries, will cost a bit more and you may have to also pay an establishment fee.
