What Causes Bad Hair?

Posted by Payo Hernandez 8 November, 2009

Many of our daily activities and habits impact upon the general health of our hair. With so much advertising and marketing emphasis focused on weight loss and fitness it can be easy to lose sight of the fact that the state of your hair can actually tell a lot about the state of your over all health too.

Once your hair is damaged you’ll find yourself having bad hair days everyday, however the thing to do is to look at your daily habits and it will become apparent where the damage is being done.

Sun exposure is bad for your hair and that ’sun kissed’ look is a sure sign of damage. The UV rays actually fade your hairs colour and make the follicles brittle and dry.

To counter against this the easiest solution is to wear a hat and form a routine whereby you are washing your hair on a weekly basis with a deep conditioner.

A deep conditioner is one where you must leave the conditioner in for five minutes or more to allow it to penetrate deeply into the hair. It’s advisable to do it once a week and you can even buy hair products containing things like sunscreen.

Rushing is another cause of bad hair. Excessive blow drying to save time or combing too roughly to untangle knots all creates the kind of damage we want to avoid. Be sure to let your hair dry naturally as much as you can, take the time to condition your hair well and be gentle with that brush!

When your life is in a rush it’s often what we do to save time which causes us to mistreat our hair, all for the sake of saving a few minutes.

Lastly a word on colouring which is something most of us know is bad for our hair. Whatever the description on the box says… colouring too often is bad for your hair simply due to the harsh chemicals used in its makeup. Try to be sensible and limit not only the frequency in which you colour your hair but also to stay relatively close to your natural colour.
