Yeast Free Diet – Testing for Food Allergies & Intolerances

Okay, if you suspect that you may have a food intolerance or food allergy, then there are a couple of ways in which you can test yourself to see if you are intolerant to certain foods. One is the Pulse Test, and the other is to have a blood test.

Blood Test

Having a blood test is probably the best way to be absolutely certain whether or not you are able to tolerate certain ingredients. What happens is, you have some blood taken, and then this blood sample is sent away to be tested against certain ingredients. The advantage of this method is that your blood can be tested against many different ingredients, and can then give you a clear picture of how you react to different foods. However, the down side is that it costs quite a lot of money.

Pulse Test

If you can\’t afford the blood test, then the pulse test is a good free alternative for you. It can be done in your own home, although it is very time consuming to do.

How to do the pulse test:

First you need to cut out all suspected foods for a few weeks, and then for each food (with at least 10 days between each), do the following:

1. Make yourself a snack or meal with a lot of the particular food.

2. Sit or lie down, until you are totally relaxed.

3. Once completely relaxed, take your pulse. This is your resting pulse rate. Write it down.

4. Eat the snack/meal that you prepared earlier.

5. Take your pulse rate at 5, 10, 30 and 60 minutes after eating the food. Write each number down. Also note any immediate symptoms, if there are any (not always).

6. Once you have recorded your pulse rate at the above times, look at the numbers. Are any of the numbers 10 or more points higher than your resting number? If so, then this indicates that your body felt challenged by the food.

7. Over the next 3 days, record any symptoms you experience. Food intolerances can show symptoms as much as 3 days after eating the food.
