Your Notebook Is An Idea Away From Working As A Successful Author

Posted by Matthew Kerridge 29 November, 2009

For the writer in all of us we are inspired to write our thoughts on paper and express them to others. We keep a notebook of our thoughts and inspirations to keep a clear thought pattern as we process the ideas in our minds. You are the future of yourself, you are the writer and the future is yours.

If you write poems then start writing poems. If you are a story writer start with a short story. Many short stories turn into feature length films. Just get writing in that new notebook and keep on writing. Don’t make excuses and write something.

If you currently have a typical responsible job that does not mean that you cannot be a writer full time someday. Nicholas Sparks never considered what the world would love his writing but as he penned he was a pharmacist (or so I am told). And Stephanie Meyer was a home-maker with three small children.

You may not feel like writing but do it anyway. You may be scared to write but do it anyway. You may think what you have to say is worthless but write it anyway. Just keep writing and you will find that what you are writing is getting better and better.

Know the rules so you can break them if you need to. Don’t get caught up in the rules either. If you have a thought write it. Don’t let ‘no’ be a deterrent for sending out your work again. Do your research on a piece and follow through being true to your idea. Study other works and read other authors to appreciate other styles and enhance your knowledge of the world through other author’s lives.

Study life and study people. Study character and what makes people tick. Learn to love life and what is around it, even if it is not pleasant look at it from all angles. What makes people think the way they do? Learn to love life and what is in it. Then write what you know, or some version of it. If you’ve never been in space and want to write about it what story can you bring that is close to you to create in space. George Lucas never traveled light speed but he knew about the will to survive and fight injustice for example.

So hold to your notebook and take it with you on a journey of a lifetime as a writer. Don’t give up, study life, research and above all things keep writing. You will find your story and the world will find it with you. If you write about it people will read it. Keep on writing and don’t give up.
